New Zealand Climate Action Network

WE ARE THE Aotearoa CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK

We are a network of over 50 Aotearoa New Zealand civil society and non-government organisations, trade unions and social movements that work across climate justice and climate action to achieve a just transition for Aotearoa that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi; protects te taiao and wildlife;  restores biodiversity; achieves zero carbon and ensures everyone’s needs are met (e.g. clean water, secure housing, access to nature, kai). Members of Aotearoa CAN work at the local, regional, national and international levels and collaborate on various projects, actions, events and campaigns.

Aotearoa CAN plays a convening, facilitator and educative role, bringing different parts of the climate movement together around our core just transition principles while allowing for members to pursue different strategies and approaches to achieving their goals. We do this through regular communication, hui, zui, coordination of solidarity and shared learning. We value whakawhanaungatanga, trust, openness and power-building.

Aotearoa CAN tends to regional relationships with Pacific Islands CAN and CAN Australia. We recognise the urgency of the climate crisis for the Pacific and other frontline, Black and Indigenous communities.
